Robert Allen was born in 1890 as a girl named Alberta Lucille Hart. He was trained as a doctor. In 1918 pretended to be a man and married a woman under the name Robert Allen. He later had his uterus removed and changed his name to Alan L. Hart. He was divorced and in 1925 married again – again to a woman.
