Ellen E. M. Roberts has worked in the book trade as an editor, sales manager, author and publisher for forty years. A Classics graduate of Reed College, she began her career at St. Martin's Press working for Leslie Pockell and Sally Richardson . She went on to work as a editor at William Morrow and as a publisher of children's books at Prentice-Hall before joining Columbia University Press as a sales manager for client presses. She is the author of the international bestseller THE CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK.
In 1992, Roberts founded Where Books Begin in New York City. A well-baby clinic for new book projects, WBB connects writers with agents, provides internet sales support and manuscript evaluations for authors as well as publishers.
In 2008, Roberts founded Woodley Books to publish illustrated literary memoirs that are appropriate for young adults and adults In My Mother's House by Stephanie Kaplan Cohen, a memoir of growing up in Long Island in the thirties has been hailed "a touching look at the origin of American suburbs." Twice: How I Became A Cancer-Slaying Superman Before I Turned 21" by Benjamin Rubenstein describes what it is like to grow up while you are dying.
After four decades in Manhattan, Roberts rusticated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, New York's westernmost suburb, where she cultivates a forest canopy garden in the shade of a fifty-year-old maple and plays Bach on her French violin.
