José de Cadalso y Vázquez, best known as José Cadalso (Cádiz, 1741 – Gibraltar, 1782), was a Spanish Colonel of the Royal Spanish Army, author, poet, playwright and essayist, one of the canonical producers of Spanish Enlightenment literature.
