Prof. PhDr. František Hrušovský was born on 17 September 1903 in Dolné Lovčice-Lovčice, Slovakia and died on 9 September 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
Hrušovský was a Slovak historian and public official, as well as a prominent representative of the Slovak exile. He studied in Prague, Krakow and at the Comenius University in Bratislava. Since 1931, he taught at the school at the Convent of the Znievom, and later worked as editor of the Slovak "Matica Slovenska" historical anthologies. In 1944 he became a university professor. Between 1938 and 1945 was a member of the Slovak parliament. In March 1945 he left Slovakia, fleeing the communists. He worked in Italy and since 1947 in the U.S., first as an instructor at a Benedictine school and since 1952 as Director of the Slovak Institute in Cleveland.
