Sir Basil Hardington Bartlett, 2nd Baronet was an actor. He started on the stage in the 1930s, then joined the British army to fight in World War II. In 1940, he published a memoir about his war experiences, called My First War: An Army Officer's Journal. He was injured during the war, and began writing screenplays for war films during his recovery, including The Next of Kin Secret Mission, and They Met in the Dark. Once recovered, he returned to the war, serving in the Intelligence Corps.
After the war, he acted again, briefly, before working as a screenwriter for the BBC, becoming head of its script department in the 1950s.
