Dr. Ben F. Feingold was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1921, he received his B.S. degree, and in 1924 he received his M.D., both from the University of Pittsburgh. He did his internship at Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh in 1924. In 1927, he did a fellowship in Pathology at the University of Goettingen in Germany. In 1928, he became the House Officer at the Children's Clinic of the University of Vienna in Austria. In 1929 he returned to the United States and became the Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics at the Northwestern University School of Medicine in Evanston, Illinois. In 1930, he married Lois Maxine Adler, with whom he had four children. In 1932, he moved to Los Angeles and became an attending physician in Pediatrics and in Infectious Diseases at Los Angeles County General Hospital; in Pediatrics at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital; and in Pediatrics at Los Angeles Children's Hospital. When World War II began, he became a commander in the US Naval Reserve. In 1945 he became Chief of Pediatrics at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and an Associate in Allergy at Los Angeles Children's Hospital. In 1950 he and his wife divorced, and in 1951 he married Helene Samuels Mayer. In 1951 he joined the Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Permanente Medical Group, and in 1952 he became the Chief of Allergy at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. In 1957 he became the Director of the Laboratory of Medical Entomology. In 1973 he published his first book, Introduction to Clinical Allergy.
