Balkrishna Martand Dabhade,born in Aundh, Dist Satara. His faather was kirtanlaar. Balkrishna himself was teacher in school, tought Marathi. He was a good dancer, musician. In 1935, h wrote " Bharatiya CHtrakala" which was twice reprinted and still is standard book for students of Indian Art. Initially he wrote poems, drama, later he shifted to Gwalior to work with Scindias. In 1945 worked with Archeologist and Director General Mortimer Wheeler at HArappa. This changed his attitude and likings.
Earlier he had written " Malati","VAtika","Marichika"," Kala Tarang", "Zankaache padsaad" later his books "Kalavimarsh","Soundaryachya Shodhat", "Waghchya Rang Mahalaat","Ganges Shilpacharyache Ardhya" were famous.He retired from Dhar college as kecturer and returned to hi son Dr Shrikant Dabhade in Nagpur. In 1979, while his daughter was doing research at Kolhapur on the Devi Temple, he had heeart attack and he died.
He has two sons and a daughter and nummber of relatives.
