Andrew Hamilton

Andrew Hamilton was probably son of Andrew Hamilton, M.A., who was collated in August 1639 to the rectory of Kilskerry, co. Tyrone, and the rectory of Magheracross, co. Fermanagh. In 1661, he was admitted to priest's orders. He held an M.A. degree from an unknown date and university. In 1666, he was collated to the union of Kilskerry and Magheracross. He supported the protestants in Ireland under James II, and as a result his property and that of his tenants was destroyed, including the burning of houses in ten villages, the loss of two hundred horses and two thousand sheep, and well as the loss of his private estate and church income. In 1689 he was sent by the governor of Enniskillen to King William and Queen Mary, with a certificate stating that a force under the Duke of Berwick had destroyed his property. His name appears in the List of the Persons Attainted in King James's Parliament of 1689 in Ireland as "Andrew Hamilton of Maghery-crosse, clerk." In 1690, He published a small book of his experiences, A True Relation of the Actions of the Inniskilling Men from December 1688, for the Defence of the Protestant Religion and their Lives and Liberties.
