Son of Russian immigrants, he joined the Royal Flying Corps during WW1 and went on to make a career in aviation journalism, culminating in his memoir Airman Friday, which describes the early exploits of Amy Johnson, Jim Mollison and others during the 1920's and '30's. Wrote for the Sunday Express during WW2 covering the war in the Far East. Well known for compiling some of the only colour footage of WW2 in the Far East. Survived by his children Paul, Sally and Ann.
