Milton K. Ozaki was born in Wisconsin. He was a journalist, a reporter, an artist, and a beauty parlor operator (the Monsieur Meltoine beauty salon, in the Gold Coast section of Chicago). His first novel, The Cuckoo Clock (which takes place in a beauty parlour), was published in 1946. He was the author of 27 popular detective novels under both his given name and the pseudonym Robert O. Saber. His novels are set in the fictional city of Stillwell, Wisconsin, which closely based on his hometown of Kenosha.
