Melissa Hardie

Born in Houston, Texas, MH received her AB at Boston University in 1961 (English Lang & Lit), and after emigrating to the UK, became a State Registered Nurse, after studies at St Thomas's Hospital, London (Nightingale Training School). She gained her PhD in Social Sciences at Edinburgh University in 1980. After 4 years running her own book business and establishing the Patten Press, she moved to West Cornwall where she established the Jamieson Library of Women's History, from which the Hypatia Trust (Registered charity 1060663 England) evolved in 1996 in conjunction with Exeter University, Exeter, Devon. She is an Honorary Fellow of Exeter University, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Linnean Society. Her interests are social history, arts, and the book arts in general.
