Professor Loving earned his B.A. in broadcast journalism at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1979. He earned his law degree at Southern Methodist University in 1991. His areas of primary interest are media law, First Amendment law, and media writing and reporting. He has extensive teaching and publication experience, along with a solid background as a working journalist.
In the 1980s, Bill was a teaching assistant at The University of Texas- El Paso and at Texas Christian University. In 1991, he joined University of Oklahoma as an assistant professor. He taught at OU for eleven years before joining the Department of Mass Communication at Idaho State University as professor and chair. In the spring of 2005 and 2006, Bill was a visiting professor at Tianjin Foreign Studies University in the People’s Republic of China. Bill joined the faculty at Cal Poly in 2008.
Bill is the co-author of one of the most recognized texts on mass media law: ‘Law of Mass Communications: Freedom and Control of Print and Broadcast Media.’ The 12th edition of this book has just been released.
