Jameela Siddiqi was born in Kenya and grew up in Uganda from where she came to Britain after the Asian Expulsion, ordered by Idi Amin in 1972. She read history and politics at the London School of Economics, University of London and has worked as a television producer, journalist and broadcaster as well as lecturer in Indian classical music. Her fiction is set in colonial East Africa.
