Fr. Robert Hater is a Cincinnati diocesan priest and the author of more than twenty-five books. He has studied, researched, and lectured on Catholic evangelization since the 1970’s. As a pioneer in this field, he is well equipped to offer parishes and other Catholic organizations and individuals solid academic and pastoral approaches to evangelization that focus on the parish, but can also be applied to other aspects of the Church’s evangelizing mission. He writes in a readable way and intersperses moving stories throughout his book to show concretely how evangelization for Catholics must be a response to the call to discipleship and a way of life. After clarifying evangelization in general, he does the same with the new evangelization, suggesting that it needs to be a pervasive attitude rather than a new program.
He is a widely respected lecturer, having given keynote addresses and seminars in almost every state in the union, besides lecturing outside of the United States in the areas of spirituality, evangelization, catechesis, and ministry. To insure that his words speak to ordinary people and professors as well, he continues to live and minister in a parish. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Dayton and a Professor of Pastoral and Systematic Theology at the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati. Recipient of numerous honors and awards, he has been chosen by a group of peers as a Leading Catholic Educator of the Twentieth Century. The biographical information for this honor can be found in Google by searching under his name and clicking on to the Talbot School of Theology. He holds a PhD in philosophy from St. John’s University in New York.
