Born January 1956 in Uherské Hradiště, former Czechoslovakia, his real name is Zdenek Šťastný. Since his early school years, however, he lived in Prague. In 1999 he moved to Canada, where he has been living since .
When asked about his writing, he says that the muses keep visiting him out of sheer curiosity. Z.H. started his writing during his student years with short stories. A book Talking to the Skies, which has never been published, was based on his own climbing activities. Z.H. studied Medicine, and upon graduation he worked in a regional hospital in Northern Bohemia, and later at the top specialized clinic in Prague as a specialist in Neonatology and in research.
In 1991 he accepted a position of a Chief Executive Officer and a Head Physician of a major medical facility in Prague, while lecturing at the School for Registered Nurses, and at Medical Faculty of Charles University and being a contributing member of the editorial board of the popular magazine for healthy lifestyle.
Circumstances later brought him to Canada. The story of the Score for Heart is partially based on author’s personal experience, though it is not an autobiography.
Besides Zdenek Hanka’s own books, he translated from English thriller Twilight by Peter James (Příšeří, Naše Vojsko 1993) and together with Marie Koubová translated Rosemary Gladstar’s book, Herbal Healing for Women (Přírodní léčba pro ženy, Eminent 1995)
