Vera Li was born in Hong Kong and came to the United Kingdom in 1981 as a student. Having returned to Hong Kong she would later accept a research position in Leicester and therefore emigrated to the United Kingdom.
Her husband having accepted a job in Gloucester in 1989, Vera began working for Gloucestershire County Council. This career would eventually lead to the research and publication of Our untold stories: The Chinese community in Gloucestershire.
Currently, Vera works for Gloucester City Council.
