Mildred McElhinney Friedman earned her BA from Elmira College in 1931 and MS from Syracuse University in 1932 majoring in English. She later earned her doctorate in Education from University of Florida in 1964.
She continued in a distinguished career as an English teacher specializing in teaching English as a second languague, and diagnosing and teaching persons with reading disabilities. She continued to teach English full and part time well into her 70's.
She passed away at the age of 97 on July 30th, 2006. She was a wonderful teacher and will be remembered by all whose lives she touched by teaching her love of literature and the English languague.
