Patrick John Kleaver has lived in the City of St. Louis, Missouri his entire life. He has had a long-time interest in its history, especially that of the neighborhoods he has lived in. While requesting old photos of one of them from a local preservation group, he was asked to participate in an oral history project about Old North St. Louis. That interview brought forth many memories but was conducted too late to be included in a book that was being published about that neighborhood. After his retirement from the Federal government (he had earlier worked in the private sector and in city government), that interview and reminiscences he had been recording in journals inspired him to write his first book in 2012 (Growing Up In Old North St. Louis). It was followed in 2013 by another book (City Dweller: A Lifetime Living and Working in St. Louis) that covered other neighborhoods. He has since recalled more anecdotes about his youth and discovered more facts about Old North St. Louis, leading him to publish in 2018 Growing Up In Old North St. Louis: Updated and Expanded Second Edition, further updating that Second Edition in 2019 and adding more information to many of its chapters in December 2020. In 2021, he totally revamped, rewrote, and added new content and photos to City Dweller: A Lifetime Living and Working in St. Louis in an Updated and Expanded Second Edition of that book.
