Visual artist Susan Barron’s first book, the 1981 limited-edition monograph with text written especially to her photographs by composer John Cage, is entitled another song. Her fifth book, LABYRINTH OF TIME in a limited edition of one copy is a chain of 77 works-on-paper opens completely to 152 linear feet [44 meters] to show all pictures and original texts, has been exhibited as a solo exhibit at Chicago’s Newberry Library, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, and is hailed as one of the 20th Century’s most moving and complex livre d’artiste. Her drawings, collages, prints, photographs and manuscripts are in museums and rare book repositories around the world. Despite Medieval appearances, her work commands listing in both editions of A Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes.
