Als Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski wurde Joseph Conrad am 3. Dezember 1857 im damals zaristischen Teil Polens geboren. Früh verlor er seine Eltern, die in russischer Verbannung starben. Mit 16 Jahren wurde Conrad Seemann und lernte Länder aller fünf Kontinente kennen, die später Schauplätze seiner Romane wurden. Am 3. August 1924 starb er in seiner Wahlheimat England. Die Bildbiographie zeichnet sein abenteuerliches Leben mit vielen Fotos und Texten von und über ihn grandios nach.
