Edition Notes

First published in 1652 as "Synonymorum et epithetorum thesaurus," but later published with the title "Gradus ad Parnassum," by which the work is commonly known. Earlier editions attribute to Unus e Societate Jesu, who has sometimes been misidentified as Paul Aler. Aler was likely editor for multiple editions of the Gradus, but it is impossible for him to have written the original text.
