"Cristóbal de Haro, a Sephardic merchant from Anvers, sponsored several expeditions to the Americas to trade spices. This brief work details an alleged voyage of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan in 1514, which was financed by Haro and conducted by the Portuguese Nuno Manuel. It also contends that Haro was the promotor and supporter of the voyage of Fernão de Magalhães, the official discoverer of the strait in 1520"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.
