Con la pérdida de la Gran Armada, terminó la hegemonía marítima que había ejercido España durante el siglo XVI; a partir de entonces, holandeses, franceses e ingleses van constituyendo su modelo colonial, sobre todo Inglaterra que, a la postre, se adueña de las colonias rivales y se convierte en la reina de los mares.

English:
With the loss of the Grand Armada, the maritime hegemony that Spain had exercised during the 16th century ended; from then on, the Dutch, French and English became its colonial model, especially England which, in the end, took over the rival colonies and became the queen of the seas.
