The dedication of the 1692 edition states that the play was originally the work of Mr. Rivers. This ascription is discredited by Dyce and others. cf. Gillow's Bibliographical dictionary of English Catholics, v. 5, p. 429, for discussion of the Anthony Rivers alias Whitelock who may have been the author.
