The narrative (p. 5-39, 1st count) recounts Joseph Park's championing of two women, Ann Croucher and Deborah Lambeart, brought to trial for spreading the smallpox in Westerly, R.I.
For preaching this sermon, Joseph Park was subjected to a public prosecution "for cursing the authority" of Rhode Island, and found guilty by the Court of Sessions at South Kingston, R.I., Aug. 1760.
