Monogrammatic device printed on t.p.: "Official CPC [i.e. Crystal Palace Contents?] 1854 Handbook".

Preliminary lithographed plate showing a plan of the Roman Court with imprints: "Published for the Crystal Palace Library by Bradbury & Evans, [11] Bouverie St." and "MacLure & Co. Lith. to the Queen".

Plate with additional imprints: "Erected by Owen Jones" and "P. H. De La Motte".

Most wood-engraved illustrations within the text are unsigned. Some are signed: "GS".

One wood-engraved illustration was also used in handbook no. 1 in this series: "Guide to the Crystal Palace and park". Series title and numbering taken from publisher's advertisements in Massey Library copy of this handbook. See McLean D 0292.

Includes: "Notice." dated June 1854 and signed by Owen Jones: p. [1] at beginning.

MASS copy 1: Bound in half green calf and marbled paper-covered boards; a.e. marbled. Calf edges blocked in blind. Spine blocked in gold and blind. With red leather title label: "The Crystal Palace Courts". With red leather title label: "Vol. I.". Bound with numbers 5-10 in this series (McLean D 0295 - McLean D O299). Bound with 5 x 12 cm. insert at end dated June 2nd, 1854: "Since this Handbook was sent to press some of the objects mentioned have received a new position; but the numbers upon the objects correspond with the numbers in the book.". With ownership inscription: "Wm. Yonge".5CaOTMC

MASS copy 2: Bound in blue cord-grain cloth blocked in blind with the spine blocked in gold; a.e. speckled red. Upper cover blocked in blind with the same monogrammatic device as printed on t.p. Spine title blocked in gold: "The Statuary of the Crystal Palace 3/6". Bound with numbers 3, 12 and 15 in this series (McLean D 0302 and McLean D 0304 - McLean D O305). With ownership inscription: "Jane A. [Waller?].". With "Notice." page by Owen Jones bound at the end rather than the beginning.
