Edition Notes

The Epistle Dedicatory' is addresssed 'To George Sacheverell, Esq; of New-Hall, in Warwick-shire', and is signed: 'Henry Sacheverell'. The DNB states that 'he [Henry] claimed to be connected with the Sacheverells of New-Hall, Warwickshire, and of Morley,Derbyshire, and his claim was admitted by some of them, but the connection has not been made out'.

Madan says of this work: 'In this discourse based on a sermon delivered in St. Mary's, Oxford, on 31 may 1702, Sacheverell bases his political creed on the indissoluble union of Church and State'.

On title-page: 'Imprimatur. Ro. Mander, Vice-Can. Oxon. Junii 2. 1702'.
