El libro relata, la que hasta ahora se concidera la mas grande batalla urbana que librara un ejercito regular y una guerrilla, en el continente americano durante el pasado siglo XX. no es un libro de historia, por el contrario es el relato personal de un jeven oficial que durante esa batalla, sirvio en emblematico batallon Atlacatl del ejercito salvadoreno. tampoco es una apologia triunfalista o la vision de alguno de los bandos, el libro no oculta los fracasos o aciertos de esta unidad elite en lo que hoy se llama, la ultima batalla de la guerra fria.
