The t.p. of this ed. has the same fictitious imprint as the first ed. of 1748. Cf. Diderot, 1713-1784 : ses œuvres et ses raports avec la librairie. 1884. item 6. The precise identification of this ed. is complicated by the number of counterfeits produced with the same imprint but with inferior plates.
This ed. comprises 51 chapters, not the 54 generally found in editions published after 1798, the year in which chapters 16, 18, and 19 were added. Cf. Jacques Proust's postface to the 1972 Livre de poche ed., p. 345; also Diderot, 1713-1784, item 6.
