Order to print on verso of half-title leaf reads: 'Novemb. 1668. At a meeting of the Council of the Royal Society of London, for Improving Natural Knowledg. Ordered, that these Discourses, viz. A short Relation of the River Nile, &c. of the Unicorn: Why the Abyssine Emperour is called Prester John of the Indies; A tract of the Red Sea; of Palm trees; Translated out of a Portuguese Manuscript, at the desire of the Royal Society, by Sr. Peter Wyche Kt. fellow of the same, be printed by their printer. Brounker. Pres.'.

The DNB entry for Sir Peter Wyche, (son of the English ambassador at the Porte, of the same name ), describes this work as a capable translation from a Portuguese manuscript made at the request of a number of fellows of the Royal Society.
