In this piece of work of 120 pages, Magalie Lombrana gives her personal interpretation of the first volume of the Forsyte Saga.
In the first part of her essay, she studies the multi-plot structure of the novel.
In the second part she concentrates on the narrative modalitities of the novel: the proximity & distance of the narrator.
In the third part she focusses on characterization & tackles the notions of clan versus individuality.
She examines the idiosyncrasies of the main characters as well as those of the secondary characters & their symbolic functions to highlight their sets of values.
