Edition Notes
Includes wood-engraved decorative initials, head-piece and tail-pieces.
Originally produced in 1860 by Joseph Cundall under the imprint of Sampson Low, Son, & Co. with colour plates printed by Leighton. Cf. McLean, Ruari. Victorian book design and colour printing, 1972. See McLean D 1034.
Colour wood-engraved plates include areas printed in colour with metal. Some plates are with signature: "BF" [i.e. Birket Foster]. Others are unsigned.
All wood-engraved plates, except one, are the same as those used in the 1860 edition of this title published by Sampson Low, Son, & Co.
Most wood-engraved plates were also used in the children's book "Warwick House toy book : Choice nursery songs" published in [1868] by Ward, Lock & Tyler. See McLean T 0082.
