MASS copy 1: Bound in green diagonal wave-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind. Covers blocked in blind with series title: "Young Naturalist's Library". For later uses of this binding design, see McLean D 0009 and McLean D 0011. With ownership label: "W. H. Mullens.". Lacking front free endpaper. All plates are bound at the beginning of the text.

MASS copy 2: Bound in half beige calf and marbled paper-covered boards; a.e. speckled red. Edges of calf blocked in blind and spine blocked in gold. Dark maroon leather title label blocked in gold.
