The possibility of Dickenson Mines utilizing a bioleaching plant at its Arthur W. White gold mine, Red Lake, Ontario, Canada was discussed. The bacterial oxidation (BIOX) plant would be the first commercial-size operation in North America and would increase recovery and profit margin while reducing the ores economic cut-off grade. The history of BIOX research and the ultimate development of a viable process by the General Mining Corp. (Gencor) were discussed along with the costs of implementing and operating a BIOX plant.
