The Ontario NDP government's apparent negative approach to mining was criticised. Despite promises to reduce bureaucracy, concessions to aboriginals introduced another barrier to mine exploration and development wiht the requirement that Indian as well as government approval be obtained, with prospects of aboriginal self government only worsening the situation. The extra bureaucracy, as well as amendments to Ontario's Labour Relations Act, were described as smothering the industry.
