Preliminary steel-engraved portrait plate of George Herbert with imprints: "Aug. Fox sc." and "London, Published, 1835".

Plate is the same as that used in an 1835 edition of this title published by Pickering. See McLean D 0499.

T.p. printed in red and black within wood-engraved decorative border.

MASS copy 1: Bound in brown morocco tooled in gold and blind; a.e.g. Board turn-ins tooled in gold. With marbled endpapers. Bound as a two volume set with McLean D 0500.

MASS copy 2: Bound in blue morocco-grain cloth with printed paper title label on spine. Title label with imprint: "Pickering 1838 Five Shillings". With ownership inscription dated 1842: "H. Porteus Oakes".

MASS copy 3: Bound in blue morocco-grain cloth with printed paper title label on spine. Title label with imprint: "Pickering 1838 Five Shillings". With [8] pages of publisher's advertisements bound before upper free endpaper. With ownership inscription: "P. T. Mount". Lacking preliminary portrait plate.
