L'idéalisme allemand s'enracine dans la problématique religieuse : Kant, d'abord, qui expose "la religion dans les limites de la raison", puis Fichte, qui repense sa Doctrine de la Science à partir de l'Evangile de Jean. Avec Hegel et Schelling, enfin, l'idéalisme postkantien se donne la tâche de ressourcer la dogmatique chrétienne à partir d'une ontothéologie spéculative.
