This story sees the same quartet of girls from "Summer Term" start what they hope will be two happy years in the Sixth Form at St. Kelvern's Bury School. But events don't go according to plan. A fire in a neighbouring school sees them saddled with "refugees", who turn out to be troublemakers. Will they ever get rid of the overbearing Charmian? And what is the mysterious hold that Tanya has over one of the junior forms? For Elizabeth, Netta, Helen and Kate, there is plenty of trouble in store, thanks to the newcomers, as the Head expects them to set an example of "co-operation".
