jtass - VINE VOICE - 4.0 out of 5 stars - Thriller for the pre-teen set
Young Donovan Hunt has traveled to Egypt to spend some time with his parents, the famed archeologists. Once in Egypt strange things begin to happen, he is followed by a mummy, he begins to get strange visions of another life in ancient times and worst of all his parents have disappeared. Donovan and his friend Ali sort their way through the mysteries, past and present to locate Don's parents.
This is a thrilling mystery written for the 9 to 12 year old crowd. The cliff hanger style and supernatural aspect will lure even the most reluctant reader into turning the pages until the end. On the positive side, this novel has, in addition to it's exciting subject and fast-pace, brings attention to the differences between the lives of wealthy American Donovan and his Egyptian friend Ali. On a sour note the subject of adoption is brought up, with the stereotypical "my 'real' parents are..." which is insulting to those of us in adoptive families. Other than that, this is a fun read, one that could possibly spark an interest into Egypt or archeology.
