This is the story of a man returning to his native area from Paris and his fatal marriage to, Eustacia, the one woman in all of Dorset shire that he should not marry. She is too free-spirited and sensuous, while he is very solemn and wanting to settle and raise a family. The story infers of the belief that one impersonal force that controls us like destiny or fate.Please Note: This book is easy to read in true text, not scanned images that can sometimes be difficult to decipher. Work Description

The native of the title is Clym Yeobright, who returns to the area from the bright society of Paris and, as any reader of Hardy knows, all is not smooth. He is quickly taken by and marries the one woman he should not--Eustacia Vye. The suffering that follows is mitigated somewhat by the ending.
