Several paintings by 18th century painter José Campeche y Jordán (b. San Juan, Puerto Rico 1751-1809) have appeared in the international art market (New York and Madrid) in recent years. Four of those painting were acquired by noted art historian Teodoro Vidal and reintegrated into the local patrimony. The author presents a thorough documentation study on the recuperated items, particularly 2 pieces recently discovered: the portraits of two personages related with the O'Daly family. The other two paintings are of religious character. Vidal donated the four paintings to the local Catholic Church (Archbishop Palace of San Juan de Puerto Rico) honoring the profound religious convictions of the colonial painter.
