The Report investigated the consequences for Banking and Insurance in Sweden of Sweden entering the EEA (or, as it happened only 1 year after publication, the EU). A main concept in the analysis was that of "market contestability". The Report presumed that changes therein (in barriers to entry to the markets concerned) constitute the main driving force for change in the financial markets. Starting from there, it tried to identify the changes in the regulatory system that would be occasioned by entering the European Internal Market (via EEA or EU) and how these changes would affect contestability and ultimately the structure and market behaviour of Banking and Insurance in Sweden.
