This publication is a result of the author's work as a civilian specialist with the "Seabees" - Construction
Batallion - in the spring of 1944 during the American invasion of Japanese occupied Okinawa. The author
worked immediately behind the lines, locating well sites and mapping coral limestone deposits to be used
as locations for airfields. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his work.
