Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Deborah Weston tells about the social visits planned and received. "Father Bourne" [Rev. George Bourne] delivered the lecture at Salem Street, since [James Trask?] Woodbury refused. Deborah had a wonderful time on the Common, and "the fire-works were beautiful." According to Henry B. Stanton, they raised $150 for the national, and $20 for the Massachusetts [anti-slavery societies]. Deborah writes that "Catherine Beecher or rather the review of it is to come out tomorrow." [This is a reference to Catherine Beecher's "Essay on Slavery and Abolitionism," which appeared in 1837. Addressed to Angelina E. Grimke.] Deborah's school quarter is out at the end of this week, but vacation will begin two or three weeks later. She says that Sarah Ann [Bailey?] has gone, "having been sent for in the ugliest manner by Mrs. Bailey."
