First published Rome, 1525. Comprises calligraphic specimens and instructional text copied from Tagliente and Arrighi. See A.S. Osley, Luminario, p. 41.

The first 24 of the 48 leaves are signed A1-A24.

Added t.p. on A3r with date 1532.

Twenty p. printed letterpress, the remainder from woodcut blocks. Full-page ill. on A1v depicts writing implements. Initials, some historiated. Arithmetical tables, p. [41-48], with notice at end: Angelus Mutinen. composuit.

Binding: maroon goatskin, signed by Lortic fils. Arms in gilt on both boards of Victor Masséna, prince d'Essling (1836-1910). The present title is no. 2187 in his Livres à figures vénitiens, where it is noted that the copy described is from his library. Author, title and date in gilt on spine, together with four monograms VM. Edges of boards & turn-ins tooled in gilt, page edges gilt, striped silk place marker.
