King Lear divides his kingdom among the two daughters who flatter him and banishes the third one who loves him. His eldest daughters both then reject him at their homes, so Lear goes mad and wanders through a storm. His banished daughter returns with an army, but they lose the battle and Lear, all his daughters and more, die.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy halfbound in brown morocco grained leather and combed marbled paper over boards. Leaves E ́and E ́have been bound in reverse order. The English bibliophile J.O. Halliwell-Phillipps purchased this copy from Thomas Jolley, Esq., in 1844. Thomas Pennant Barton subsequently purchased it from Halliwell-Phillips in 1857. The armorial bookplate of Jolley is present on the front pastedown, and that of the Barton Library on the rear pastedown.
