Twice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Cooper was the most famous surgeon of his time, and the author of a large number of important works on surgery and anatomy which went into many editions. The above work was planned in two volumes, the first on non-malignant diseases - the second on malignant diseases was never published.
