His formal education cut short, Vincent Schaefer continued to learn as laboratory assistant to Dr. Irving Langmuir, a position in which he helped develop color TV, sonar, cloud seeding, etc., becoming a respected researcher in his own right. His passion as a naturalist and a hiker led him to be instrumental in conservation efforts in New York State.
