In 1941, Brandy Mirakle witnesses the violent deaths of his bigger-than-life parents, Laura and Milo Mirakle. His mother opens a free medical clinic in Georgia and staffs it with black nurses and help. The Ku Klux Klan murders her and her workers but Brandy survives, actually killing three of the Klansmen.
