"This book covers the growth of America both in land and population. It is the story of the settling of America by immigrants from Europe in its beginnings to the opening of the gates to the people of third-world nations. Immigration is divided into three great waves as millions of people migrated to the great land of freedom and opportunity. Each wave had its strong anti-immigrant movements by native-born Americans. Discrimination and antagonism were prevalent as the new immigrants settled into ethnic enclaves. The native-born feared these newcomers would take their jobs, drive down wages, and fail to assimilate into the Anglo-Saxon culture. Since 1965, millions of immigrants from third-world countries have entered the country plus millions of illegal aliens. This has caused a great controversy among Americans and state and federal governments. The last chapter provides ten steps toward resolving the immigration problem."
